Moving Homes!

Moving house is a extremely stressful experience. The logistical challenge of safely transporting all your worldly belongings from one property to another isn’t a simple one.

The first organisational tip I would recommend when moving is sorting out all your belongings. Ideally, you should begin packing as soon as the move is confirmed. 6-8 weeks before moving day is a good time to begin packing preparations starting with non-necessities and storage items. A move is the perfect opportunity to sort through your stuff and determine what you really want to keep and there is no reason to lug around any unnecessary items.

Making a list is one of my favorite organisational tips, for example make a list of all the boxes you have packed so you can keep track of all your items and don’t lose anything in your move, I would also recommend to put a label on the side of the box for easy viewing and consider color-coding boxes by room.

You can’t and you shouldn’t just pack ALL of your things without sorting them out first. If you do, then that will be one of the most costly packing mistakes you can make.

Go from room to room and create a house inventory sheet that includes the items in every single room. In its essence, that inventory sheet is just a detailed list of everything you own inside your home. Isn’t it mind-blowing how many things you have accumulated over the years?

Last but most important tip is booking quality removalists which are often booked weeks, or even months, in advance so make sure you book them in as soon as you have found a new home. Booking the move as early as possible will ensure that your stuff will be picked up on time. Also, it will ensure that you are not rushing around stressed and trying to find someone last minute and moving companies are busiest on weekends, so if you can skip the Saturday chaos and schedule your move for a Tuesday, you might get a significant discount.
